The MCS Foundation welcomes Future Homes Standard
24 March (London): Responding to the announcement of the Future Homes Standard, which will mean that the majority of new homes will have solar panels and heat pumps, Garry Felgate, CEO of The MCS Foundation, said: “The confirmation that the vast majority of new homes in England will have solar panels and low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps is very good news – for energy security, for the UK’s progress toward a carbon-free future, and for the countless households that will benefit as a result.”
The MCS Foundation’s research shows that the measures outlined in the Future Homes Standard would save a typical household over £1,000 a year.
It will also accelerate the adoption of heat pumps, and bring us far closer to the 450,000 installations a year needed by 2030 to meet the UK’s legally binding climate targets.
“What matters now is implementation, and ensuring households have confidence in the technologies their new home will come with. So, it’s vital that housebuilders consider quality and consumer protection, by ensuring every installation is delivered by an MCS certified installer, to MCS standards.”
