Responding to reports that the Boiler Upgrade Scheme could face cuts in funding, Dr Garry Felgate, CEO of The MCS Foundation, said, “Ongoing energy price shocks show how important it is to reduce the UK’s dependence on gas and oil for heating our homes. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme has helped record numbers of households replace boilers with heat pumps and shield them from the worst impacts of the energy crisis. Government has rightly made affordable energy a priority, but removing funding from the Boiler Upgrade Scheme budget now would send the wrong signal at the very time we need to be ramping up deployment of affordable, fossil fuel-free heating.”
