Onshore wind strategy: our response
Friday 4 July 2025
The MCS Foundation has welcomed the publication of the onshore wind strategy by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Garry Felgate, Chief Executive of The MCS Foundation, said, “We welcome the Government’s drive to tackle planning regulations which are not fit for purpose and currently block small-scale wind turbines.
“Unobtrusive small-scale wind turbines would be of huge benefit to rural communities and businesses, while contributing to UK’s energy resilience.
“In order to gain the best efficiency from small-scale turbines, the maximum height restriction should be lifted from 11.1m to 30m, which is just over the height of an average oak tree. Raising the maximum height restrictions at the same time as allowing permitted development could help many more rural communities harness renewable energy from wind.”
